It’s that time of year when empty schools fill up with students and staff. COVID-19 has left a lot of uncertainty in its wake and this certainly applies to school reopening. Find out what Lewiston is doing as we usher in students for fall.

Our guest this week knows more about this valley than anyone we know, in fact he has upwards of 8 books published on the subject. Steve Branting has worked in the Lewiston School District for years, and is a well known local historian. Take a trip back in time with us and Steven Branting - professional historian. 

This week we take a look at a piece of Lewiston History. On August 9th, 1928 an elephant named Mary escaped from the traveling circus that was passing through Lewiston and was shot and killed on Main St. Come with us on the journey that is the story of this elephant and the events that surrounded it. 

This week on Old Spiral Podcast Debi Fitzgerald joins us from the annual Dogwood Festival and Art Under the Elms. As the director of the LCSC Center for Art and History, Debi brings us these beloved events every year. Except, of course, this year. Today on Old Spiral Podcast we have a two for one of recently retired Lewiston High School Faculty, the Funks. Scott and Mary Ann moved to the valley to fill vacant positions in the mid 80s and have since called the valley home. Scott, or Mr. Funk as he may be better known, taught many flavors of history, perhaps the most favored being History of Rock ‘n Roll. Mrs. Funk guided young minds through the library shelves and they both have done so much for the school and community. We were very excited to have them in, and talk with two people who help make this valley the wonderful place it is.
